Famous Judgments, not necessarily right Judgements. Changing face of Pakistan's Judiciary

Judiciary in Pakistan has always been criticized because delaying justice and sometimes denying it completely, one of the major criticism it face is of being biased towards politicians and rich powerful people. With the emergence of media in Pakistan, judiciary finally decides to improve its image in front of general public by making judgments that will put it in a favorable position.

In order to make famous judgments, judiciary is playing close to and sometimes crossing a red line that separates right judgments form wrong judgments. The most recent incidence is the judgment given against Gullu Butt of 11 years in prison and damages of Rs. 110,000/- for breaking car windows and screens in model town Lahore. The only reason this judgment was made is because the hype had been created against Gullu butt and his actions, giving sever punishment to him is a move to make judiciary looks good in the eyes of general public. The question remains if this judgment is right or wrong but instead of discussing it lets look at some similar incidences.

No court passed any judgment on the protesters who broke windows of one of the news channel building which is the same act as was done by Gullu Butt, the reason being if passed any judgment against them will not please that particular political party and their supporters. No judgment was passed against the protesters who invaded the PTV building and damaged its premises and no judgment was passed against the protesters who broke parliament gate. All these acts are similar and even worse crimes as compared to that of Gullu Butt.

Judiciary is making famous judgments, but is selective and sometimes making unjust judgments just to make itself looks good in eyes of general public, and the only way for judiciary to make itself look good is to make the judgments against the ruling government as any decision made in favor of government make judiciary looks bad because of severe criticism of opposition parties and journalists. And there are many recent incidence where judiciary is stepping out of its restrictions and breaking constitution like interfering in executive matters, hearing petition questioning Parliament proceedings.

For justice to prevail in the country Judiciary not need to make famous judgments but the right judgments, as every right judgment cannot be praised by every one there are always going to be parties which will oppose every right decision as it affects them adversely.
